Here are a few new Silk Naturals products that I purchased a few months back.
All swatches are on bare skin.
- Graceful Eye Wand eyeshadow US$4.50
- Demure Eye Wand eyeshadow US$4.50
- Medium Brown Brow Cream sample US$0.99 (full size 2g pot $6.50)
The medium brown brow cream is a great shade for Asian brows that need just a tad of filling in, avoiding the harsh look that black and darker browns give. The cream version is easy to apply and does not come across as greasy. It doesn’t last very long on greasy skin though. The sample is a drop in the pod and is enough to last for several weeks, depending on how much brow space you have to fill in.
The Medium Brown Brow Cream is described by Silk Naturals as:
Medium Brown Brow Cream is a creamy version of our brow powders. They’re super easy to use, and provide sparse brows with a bit of needed color, and a little bit of conditioning from the natural oils.
The ingredients are:
Ingredients: Certified Organic Castor Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Candelilla Wax, Carnuaba Wax. Also contains: Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide
Vegan & Gluten Free
The eye wands are a new format of packaging and there’s a slight tweak to the eyeshadow formula, packaged in a 3.5ml doe foot applicator tube (similar to lipglosses), that Silk Naturals claims is travel friendly (i.e. portable).
The ingredients are:
Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Demure is described as:
Demure is a light, pinkish lavender shimmery pearl. It’s made to match Dainty, but it’s a lot more versatile than it looks. The lavender tone is soo light that it’s nearly neutral and it makes a fabulous one color wash with a little winged liner.
Graceful is a taupish grey Suede (not matte, but not sparkly either). It pairs perfectly with Deviant, but is also nice as a one-color wash.
Both Demure and Graceful are absolutely lovely neutrals and very wearable on virtually everyone. The finish is not too shimmery and the ingredients, with the addition of fractionated coconut oil, actually give the eyeshadows a smoother glide.
However, moving over to the cons, I have to grouse about the packaging. The concept seriously is AWESOME. But as the product is still powdery, each time I remove the doe foot applicator from the tube, there’s a lot of fallout from the wand, which translates to WASTAGE. So I’ve only been using this at home and not outside which defeats the purpose of the “travel” concept. Second – these eyeshadows when swatched on bare skin crease quickly if you have oily lids (mine are semi-oily) and will fade. A primer is absolutely needed. The eyeshadows are also $0.50 pricier than the normal $4 eyeshadow jars. I’d be keen to see this formula back in the jars and $0.50 less, as the packaging is really a failure.
Unless you really fancy the shades available in the eye wand format, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend these at all, sorry!
