No, I don’t. Surf, that is. Ok, I did try twice in Phuket, Thailand, and barely managed to stand.
However, while browsing through iHerb’s latest offerings, the name of this sunscreen/skincare range caught my eye – Smart Girls Who Surf. Quite possibly the pink font used on the packaging too 😛
The SGWS tinted moisturiser with SPF 20 retails at US$28.99, but at a discounted price of US$21.76 on iHerb for 1.7 oz of it. My skin has been on quite a good run lately with just small bumps and fading scars so I’ve been looking for something sheer to slap on when in a rush. As well as something to bring along on dive vacations when a foundation is just too much and something sheer with SPF would be awesome for apres dive.
The SGWS tinted moisturiser uses a mix of chemical and physical sunscreen and contains dimethicones. However, it IS oil-free. There are 3 tints you can choose from – Light, Medium or Dark http://www.iherb.com/Smart-Girls-Who-Surf and without any shade reference, I took a gamble and picked the medium.
That’s how the medium tint looks like on my underarm – slightly yellow leaning to neutral. I have a scar to the left of the blob (courtesy of one of my neighbourhood felines) so let’s see how much coverage this gives.
Here’s how my underarm and scar look after rubbing in the tinted moisturiser. There’s a slight sheen to the finish but no perceptible colour and the scar is still about 85% obvious, making that a pretty sheer coverage. Unless you happen to be extremely fair or pale, I would think medium could suit quite a large spectrum of colours (say between NC20 – 35) as it’s so sheer. There is no heaviness to the texture and rubs in fairly quickly. It’s not particularly moisturising so for those with normal/dry/dehydrated skin, you might like to use a moisturising base before applying this.
I would like to use this more and actually bring it along for my January dive vacation before deciding whether to repurchase or otherwise. As with all makeup with SPF, I would also advocate using a proper sunscreen as a base.
