Silk Naturals Review: Fall 2011 Purchase Part 1

I’ll have to concur with most of the ladies on the internet and forums that Silk Naturals‘ Fall 2011 is the best ever 🙂

(All photos are taken in natural light except where specified. They can be clicked on to view them in their full sizes)

My lil' haul

Here’s my selected few items to kickstart the buying season 😀

  • Eyelight foruma eyeshadows in Phantom, Magpie, Ether, By Golly (GWP/$10), Kick Start and Jump (the latter 2 were $3 gumballs in an earlier purchase, hence the different sticker)
  • Cream blushes in Candy Apple and Amuse
  • Amplifying Lip Glaze in Engage

    New lip stains

  • Vamp (new Fall 2011) lip stain
  • Gigi (re-release) lip stain

From L - R: Amuse, Candy Apple and Engage

Let’s start with the plastic tubes of Amuse, Candy Apple (cream blushes) and Engage Amplifying Lip Glaze. There are no samples available for the cream blushes in tube form but I really prefer them in these tubes than in pods/jars where you have to fuss with. This is a simple dab and go. Plus, they double up as lip colours too. US$4.50/piece.

Amuse Cream Blush

Amuse is described as a golden peach shimmer cream blush for fans of Lovelace.

Ingredients:  Capric Capryllic Tryglycerides, Candelilla Wax.  Also contains:  Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Tin Oxide

Candy Apple Cream Blush

Candy is described as a red cream blush. seriously RED.  It’s nicely balanced and should wok for most folks.  It’s also lovely dotted on over lip balm.  Uber pigmented so a little dab is all you need- use caution if you’re pale because it takes less than you think it would.  Candy apple is completely sheer with no shimmer at all.

Shockingly red in the tube but wait. It can be sheered out to give a lovely flush.

Engage Amplifying Lip Glaze

Engage is a Golden Plum Rose Amplifying Lip Glaze, medium deep plummy red with a bit of opacity, and golden glimmers.  It’s flattering to most skin tones and perfect for Fall.  Sort of the grown-up version of Precious. US$4.50

Ingredients:   Ingredients:  Certified Organic Castor and Jojoba Oils, oleic/linoleic/linolenic polyglycerides (organic), Avocado Oil, Organic Candelilla Wax, Cranberry Oil, Raspberry Oil, Passionfruit Oil, Carnuaba Wax, Dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline, Menthol.  Also contains:  Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, FD&C color

I just love the sight of new and unused creamy goodness in tubes 🙂 But I digress.

From top to bottom: Engage, Candy Apple and Amuse. They all apply sheer.

Amuse and Candy Apple sheered out. Candy Apple doesn’t look so shockingly red now, does it? If I had to bring just 2 lip and cheek colours on holiday, I’d pick these 2. Amuse is THE peachy golden glow and Candy the classic sheer red. I’m very happy with the shades and like them to layer under my foundation to prolong the intensity of the powder blushers that I use atop them.

Engage (taken with flash)

That’s about 2 coats of Engage on my lips. I took a risk with Engage as I have a warm yellow-based skintone and generally can’t do  cool-toned lip shades. The semi-sheerness of Engage does help, along with the subtle golden glimmer. It’s not a shade I have in my lipgloss/colour/stick collection which makes this kinda unique for me. Plus, I can probably use it to tone down the redder lipshades and stains 😀

Lip Stains

The lip stains are also US$4.50 each. Dixie’s my first lip stain from Silk Naturals purchased many months ago, but I thought I’d swatch it here just to make a happy, colourful smiley face.

Vamp – Vamp is a deep plum red lip stain that is absolutely stunning and dramatic.

Gigi – Gigi is a pretty light pink lip stain- similar to Damsel.  It’s shockingly pink in the tube- like Tart blush.  One coat is super pretty and feminine.  Several coats yields an almost neon pink, and then topped with a bit of Roxie a sophisticated red.

Dixie – Described as a peach lip stain but really, as you can see here, it’s like the lip stain version of Candy Apple 😛

Actual description: Dixie is a warm red lip stain.  One coat is a pretty peach- more coats deepen the color to a brick red.  Great for warmer skin tones, and wonderful for layering.)

In terms of staying power, Gigi is undoubtedly the winner. This lasts overnight on my lips and is the absolute last to fade off completely. While it’s really way too cool and bright pink on my lips when freshly applied, I like the effect as it fades, leaving a subtle but still lightly bright pink behind.

Dixie rates 2nd in the staying stakes and Vamp, while being my favourite, is numero tres.

Vamp neat (taken with flash)

Here’s Vamp as it is on my lips with 1 full coat. Not so much plum as berry red. Darker than Dixie but not quite as loud. Very wearable.

Vamp + Icing (taken with flash)

For the glitter girls who can’t live without shimmer and glitter in their lip shades, here’s Vamp + Icing, with plenty of multi-coloured sparkles.

Vamp + Icing + Teeth (With Flash)

Not so vampish and a way more fun shade 🙂

Great reviews! I really need to try out the lip stains because I am bad about applying lip gloss in the morning and then not reapplying during the day.
