One Hand Washes The Other (OHWTO) 1st Purchase Review

One Hand Washes The Other (OHWTO) is an Artfire based Indie shop that sells both stock perfumes (i.e. dupes of famous names), as well as her own private stock (original inventions).

All descriptions of scents can be found on the OHWTO blog at http://ohwto.blogspot.com/

Turnaround time and international shipping from the US to Singapore took less than 2 weeks. Count me impressed šŸ™‚ Shipping was very fair and great attention paid to the packaging and tiny details, such as a patterned tape across the flap for more security, as well as a cute inked stamp of an old style key.

Impressive attention to details or what?

Included in the bubblepac were styrofoam peanuts, which I’ve not encountered from any other Indie seller before. There were 2 complimentary postcards and a couple of stickers. The solid perfume tubes were housed in a mesh bag, with the plastic vial sample in the small brown inked envelope. Solid perfume tubes were shrinkwrapped individually and liquid perfumes were housed in separate small plastic baggies. I LOVE the wax seal on the small envelope that housed the printed invoice as well as a couple of free samples.

Yummy scents šŸ™‚

My purchases were a random 3 pack of solid scents in 0.15 oz tubes at USD$6.50; and a perfume vial of OHWTO’s newest perfume oil – Besos del Sol – at USD$2 for 1ml. My free samples were Yuzu and nirvana solid perfume samples.

OHWTO describes the scents as follows. My own comments are italicised at the bottom of each paragraph.

Besos del Sol, kisses of sun, is the latest scent to emerge from the OHWTO formulary, and is sure to become a summer favorite. Best described as the scent of sun-warmed skin, Besos del Sol is a feminine and flirty scent. Creamy coconut and white gardenia star, supported by notes of white grapefruit, resinous amber, jasmine, a touch of deep, smoky vetivert, and a dash of bourbon vanilla. It’s a great summer floral, and is really just the perfect fragrance to wear with little sun dresses or shorty shorts šŸ˜‰ A floral for those who hate florals, Besos del Sol was created as a custom request, and though I thought I’d hate it, as I’m really not a huge fan of flowery scents, it’s quickly become an obsession, one I’m quite happy to indulge.
[My first whiff of this filled my nostrils with fresh coconuts and little else. As it dried down, the florals came through more, though it was still overwhelmingly coconuts for me. I don’t think this is quite my style and would recommend this to ladies who don’t like overwhelmingly floral scents. But coconuts. Wear time was around 2 – 3 hours.]

Summer Melon Spritzer: This smells like ripe, juicy canteloupe, watermelon, and honeydew melons. Supporting top notes of Japanese Grapefruit, Crisp Apple and Pomelo bring a bright and cheery melding to the bottom note of Tonka Bean. The secret ingredient to this fragrance is Tonic Water (thus the ‘spritzer’).Ā Ā
[Just 1 word – YUMMY. This is how I’d like to smell like after a refreshing shower. Sweet, citrusy and spritzer-like. Wear time of 3+ hours.]

Gimme Shelter: Instant relaxation with this uplifting and comforting fragrance with its notes of fresh citrus tones of orange and bergamot leading to the warm heart. Soft floral tones combine with clove and cinnamon as leafy green accents add dramatic texture to the blend. An earthy element is created with patchouli, while fresh minty pennyroyal lifts the spicy tones. Sweet vanilla and soft musk are carefully balanced at the base of the scent. Top notes: orange, bergamot, clove, mint. Middle notes: floral, spice, green, patchouli. Bottom notes: musk, vanilla.
[This is a pretty strong perfume and a little goes a long way, so take heed when you’re applying this. I don’t quite get the cinnamon in this but it’s on the complex side. Ok in small doses, just not an everyday scent for me I guess.]

Lemon Sugar:Ā  (a Fresh dupe) Sweet sugar and fresh-cut lemons- it doesn’t get much fresher than this! You’ll smell: Italian Bergamot, Yuzu, Mandarin, Lychee Flower, Orange Blossom, Ginger Flower, Oak Moss, Caramel & White Santal… but mostly, lemon and sugar.
[Lol this reminded me of Jif/Cif when I smelled this. It is very lemony with a tinge of sweet sugar, but I don’t quite get the rest of the notes. It’s an instant “pick-me-up” for me as the lemon really stimulates my senses.]

Yuzu: Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit. This scent has wonderful sparkling overtones of grapefruit, citron, and a hint of mandarin orange.
[This is a simple scent, pleasant to wear and true to description.]

Nirvana: Best described as a blend of Dragon’s Blood and Patchouli, this fragrance also has sweet fruity notes to balance out the stronger base notes. Very relaxing, this is just the best when your mood needs to be lifted.
[Yup, I totally get why this is called Nirvana. It has a spiritual tone to it in an Eastern way. Not quite for everyone but if you’re a Nag Champa person, you might like Nirvana too, which is upped a couple of notches in intensity.]

Except for Besos del Sol, the rest are all stock perfumes. My favourites are Summer Melon Spritzer. The solid perfumes seem to last slightly longer than the perfume oil sample I have. But this might differ from scent to scent. The solid perfumes glide on soft and smooth, as well as being pretty moisturising. They can be easy to over-apply for heavier scents that need a subtler hand.

I’ve placed a 2nd order for OHWTO because of Mermaid. Will be blogging about that soon šŸ™‚
