All the while, I’ve never been a fan of slapping anything with SPF on my face, owing to the tackiness, white cast and just plain hassle.
Until ageing and sun damage worries started kicking in 😛
From forums and such, Devita Solar SPF 30+ Face Protective Moisturiser (another long garbledy goobledy name) seemed pretty well favoured as a non-chemical/paraben free/silicone-free alternative. Plus, I particularly fancied the usage of a simple moisturiser using zinc oxide as a physical block on my face, without the addition of snazzy chemical blockers like Avobenzone, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Homosalate and what-have-yous.

The RRP is US$25.95 and the plastic tube contains 2.5 oz, 75 ml which is approximately 1.5 – 2 months’ worth if used daily. This used to be in a frosted jar at just 1.7 oz, but Devita has listened to their users and introduced the much more travel and budget friendly tube packaging.
Devita can be purchased here https://www2.devita.net/store/product.php?productid=17534 or on Ebay and other online stores like iHerb. Use my referral code “UKE525” to get USD$5 off your first iHerb order.
According to Devita’s website, this is “not a nanotechnology product. Average particle size is 250 nm.”
The plastic opening came sealed with a foil (which has been chucked away) and is very easy to dispense quite a precise amount. I much prefer this new tube packaging over the frosted jar. When I got to the last bits in the jar, I had to use a chopstick to get them out, which made it so unsanitary and inconvenient. Not forgetting how my dad also managed to drop an almost-full glass jar too… guess who had a tough time cleaning it up?
Devita is unscented and doesn’t have that yucky oil scent that many physical sunscreens have. It goes on very smoothly and gets absorbed completely into your skin after a couple of minutes. There is also no unsightly white cast to it, as you can tell from the swatches above. It has a lotion light texture that doesn’t leave your fingers nor face tacky. However, if you do have very emollient serums or gels on your face before using Devita, the appearance might be shinier.
On its efficacy, this is not waterproof and shouldn’t be used for sports or on sweltering hot days when you’ll perspire buckets. But for a simple everyday SPF moisturiser this is good stuff for me. I’m not particularly prone to pigmentation or freckles, although the latter I do have quite a few and this has served me well ever since I started using it. I am also very well stocked up with a few more tubes of this 🙂
Packaging: 10 (The tube is awesome and very portable. I no longer have to worry about my dad dropping it on the floor and me cleaning up the frosted pump jar glass shards and hearing my heart break in the process )
Overall score: 9
