Sunday Beautytalk: Meet my favourite SPF buddy – Devita Solar SPF 30+ Face Protective Moisturiser

All the while, I’ve never been a fan of slapping anything with SPF on my face, owing to the tackiness, white cast and just plain hassle.

Until ageing and sun damage worries started kicking in 😛

From forums and such, Devita Solar SPF 30+ Face Protective Moisturiser (another long garbledy goobledy name) seemed pretty well favoured as a non-chemical/paraben free/silicone-free alternative. Plus, I particularly fancied the usage of a simple moisturiser using zinc oxide as a physical block on my face, without the addition of snazzy chemical blockers like Avobenzone, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Homosalate and what-have-yous.

Zinc Oxide-based protective solar moisturiser

The RRP is US$25.95 and the plastic tube contains 2.5 oz, 75 ml which is approximately 1.5 – 2 months’ worth if used daily. This used to be in a frosted jar at just 1.7 oz, but Devita has listened to their users and introduced the much more travel and budget friendly tube packaging.
Devita can be purchased here or on Ebay and other online stores like iHerb. Use my referral code “UKE525” to get USD$5 off your first iHerb order.

Classy cardboard packagingACTIVE INGREDIENT: Micronized Zinc oxide 19%. INACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Aloe barbadensis (organic aloe vera gel), Purified Water (aqua), Capric/caprylic triglycerides (derived from coconut oil), Glycerin (vegetable), Hyaluronic acid (vegan source), Glyceryl stearate SE (derived from vegetable oil), Stearic acid, Lecithin phospholipid, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Allantoin, Vitis vinifera (grape) seed extract. Ingredient labeling adheres to international INCI standards. Devita says:Sunshine Go Away Today... And it will with DeVita's feather-light, never heavy, oily or greasy moisturizing sun block. It's hard to believe (but it's true!) that our all-natural, sheer, moisturizer/sun screen is a deeply moisturizing daytime cream and sun block all in one! DeVita's exclusive formulation is created specifically for those sensitive to breakouts. This moisturizer is light enough to wear under make-up, absorbs quickly, and yet leaves the skin nourished and feeling soft and smooth. Offering full spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection with a SPF of 30+. Safe for adults and children. Titanium Dioxide Free. DeVita skin care products are 100 percent Vegan and Paraben Free. They are considered Gluten Sensitive Safe and never contain GMO's. DeVita products are never tested on animals (only humans!). Nano-free, paraben free

According to Devita’s website, this is “not a nanotechnology product. Average particle size is 250 nm.”

The plastic opening came sealed with a foil (which has been chucked away) and is very easy to dispense quite a precise amount. I much prefer this new tube packaging over the frosted jar. When I got to the last bits in the jar, I had to use a chopstick to get them out, which made it so unsanitary and inconvenient. Not forgetting how my dad also managed to drop an almost-full glass jar too… guess who had a tough time cleaning it up?

Great stuff, I love it.

Devita is unscented and doesn’t have that yucky oil scent that many physical sunscreens have. It goes on very smoothly and gets absorbed completely into your skin after a couple of minutes. There is also no unsightly white cast to it, as you can tell from the swatches above. It has a lotion light texture that doesn’t leave your fingers nor face tacky. However, if you do have very emollient serums or gels on your face before using Devita, the appearance might be shinier.

On its efficacy, this is not waterproof and shouldn’t be used for sports or on sweltering hot days when you’ll perspire buckets. But for a simple everyday SPF moisturiser this is good stuff for me. I’m not particularly prone to pigmentation or freckles, although the latter I do have quite a few and this has served me well ever since I started using it. I am also very well stocked up with a few more tubes of this 🙂

Rating out of 10
Price: 8 (could be cheaper, since it contains fewer ingredients than the body version, which is 180 ml in size!)
Quality: 9 (just 1 point off for not being waterproof)
Packaging: 10 (The tube is awesome and very portable. I no longer have to worry about my dad dropping it on the floor and me cleaning up the frosted pump jar glass shards and hearing my heart break in the process )
Ease of usage: 9 (You need to rub this in a bit instead of just slathering on and leaving it as such, but not as much rubbing as chemical & other physical sunscreens)
Overall score: 9
Would I repurchase this? Already did, already well stocked 😀

Hi, how does this compare tu RoC Soleil Protection Sunscreen for Sensitive skin version? I’m talking about its matte-ness on the face. I personally use RoC and love it as it does not feel oily or shiny. But shame that RoC can’t be used with spf makeup, how about this Devita? Can this be used with spf makeup?
